National Physical Laboratory NPL
NPL is the national metrology institute of the United Kingdom. NPL has a 100 year history in radiometry and photometry and pioneered many of the techniques now used around the world over 25 years ago, including cryogenic radiometry, filter radiometry and detector-based photometry.
NPL played a leading role in developing an understanding of mesopic vision through the EC funded Mesopic optimisation of visual efficiency (MOVE) project. In collaboration with CIE and CEN/ISO the project developed a model for mesopic photometry, which will form the basis of an international standard. NPL’s active research in the field of solid state lighting is.
