TKK has developed geometrical models that can explain illuminance values produced by LEDs much better than traditional point source approximations do. TKK also has experience with colour correction issues and associated uncertainty estimations with the photometry of LEDs. TKK has been one of the pioneers in developing radiometric and photometric calibration methods based on filter radiometers. This expertise is needed for building the two-channel mesopic photometer in the project.

The laboratory has studied the effects that factors such as pulse-width-modulation have on the spectra of LEDs. Developing spectral measurement methods for junction temperatures to predict lifetime of LEDs is a natural continuation of this work.
